Unfinished comic - pg. 1_5

Back in 2000, I was working on what was to be Satin Steele #4, a story titled "The Hundred-Year Itch". I was trying out several things I hadn't done before with Satin: it was to be full color, and it was to be a web-first (possibly web-only) comic, so it was formatted to be readable in an average browser window without scrolling.

But after completing sixteen pages, I made the decision to change direction on Satin Steele, to relaunch the series as a sort of "sports drama/soap opera/slice of life" comic. So I never got around to finishing this story.

I'm rather proud of the work I put into some of these pages, so I wanted to post them here. The sequence picks up on page 5, the first appearance of Satin in this story, and gives her something heroic to do, as well as set up the bizarre adventure she'd be undergoing. I did complete 6 other pages, but I didn't include them here because they a) didn't have Satin in them, or b) I wasn't (and still am not) happy with how they turned out. ...or c) both.

(The numbering scheme for these pages follows this format: the page order in which these are to be read, followed by the actual page number in the original story. Thus, "10_14" means that this is the 10th page in the sequence, and the 14th page of the original comic.)

This is the fifth page of the original story; the first four pages detail the plight of a young woman, whose car broke down in a dangerous neighborhood, how she's rescued from thugs by a mysterious, bald-headed man who mutters about having a "need" for her - and how her body is found shortly afterward, drained of blood. So now we switch to the first appearance of Satin in the story.
