Unused Satin Steele page

Wow, the things I find in the piles of old artwork I keep around the house...

I don't remember exactly when this was drawn (and, of course, I didn't bother to date it ), but this was intended for the first series (the "heroine/adventure" version). As nearly as I can remember, this was the first page of a "framing story" that would've introduced a flashback to Satin's earlier days - perhaps even the story that would eventually become "Contest Jitters". The gimmick here being that Janet/Satin would be updating her scrapbook, and looking over an article or photograph would then lead into the story behind the clipping.

This was drawn on 14" x 17" paper, laid out toward the right-hand edge of the sheet; this left a 3" margin on the left-hand side which was useful for writing notes on story, dialogue, etc. In this case, I'd written out the dialogue, which went like this:

Panel 1: Matt, coming back from the publisher's office, calls out "Janet? You home?"

Panel 2: Matt gets a crafty look on his face when he hears her, "In the bedroom, Matt!"

Panel 3: (the large panel):
Matt: "You sexy thing, you knew what was on my mi --"

Then he sees the bed strewn with clippings, photos, a shoebox with who knows what else in it, scissors, and a bottle of rubber cement "-- GOOD GRIEF"

Janet/Satin: "Sorry for the mess, Matt… I'm updating my scrapbooks!"

The blank space in the upper right corner would've been used for logo, title and credits.

BTW, the gray area in the middle isn't pencil smudges; it happens with every piece of line drawing I try to scan on the large-format scanner. And I'm not quite sure how to eliminate it. Oh well.
