Tetsuko vs the Walls 011 - cel 01 (NEW VERSION)

Description

I swear, I'm obsessed with this animation, Tetsuko vs the Walls 011 - Pencil Test 1. I'm up to about 10 inked cels (just about the point where the walls have reached Tetsuko's hands), and I colored the first cel to get an idea of what the finished animation might look like.

So here's an almost* finished cel so you can see what it might look like as well.

*I say "almost" because I haven't decided yet whether to add shading to it. The flat color makes it look sort of Hanna-Barbera-ish; shading might make it look cooler, but add that much more work (even cel shading).

UPDATE: Here's a new version of the cel. This first difference you'll see right away is that I've made the decision to add cel shading. I'm keeping it simple - only one darker shade for each color, plus white highlights for the hair - but it was a decision I made because I wanted to show the shadows of her arms on the walls; as they inch closer, the shadows would move up the walls until hands, walls, and shadows all touch. I thought it'd be weird looking if only the walls had shadows, so...

The other difference you might notice is that her arms are much more symmetrical. That's because I just discovered a tool in Clip Studio Paint that I wish I'd been using all along: a symmetry ruler. Set up the ruler on the canvas (in this case, vertically though the center) and every line you draw on one half of the canvas is perfectly mirrored on the other half! So I could literally ink both of her arms at the same time, for example. It means I'll have to redraw practically every cel (aaaargh!), but the finished cels will be much better looking.

(I also discovered I could import video into an animation in CSP for rotoscoping! Meaning I can use the original rough animation I created in Animation Desk on my iPad for inking after all! The things I learn after doing stuff the hard way...)
