Description
The idea for this joke came to me a couple of days ago*, and I knew I just had to do a comic about it with Tetsuko and Sonya.
(4-koma, or yonkoma in Japanese, is basically a four-panel gag comic.)
I first learned the word uchū some years ago, after I'd gotten into anime and Urusei Yatsura and was on a tear to get translations of the opening and closing themes of that series. The media company AnimEigo (which was at the time specializing in bringing to the American market some of the more obscure anime series like Kimagure Orange Road and Riding Bean, as well as Urusei Yatsura) published its "liner notes" on the series it carried on its website, including the lyrics and translation thereof of the first UY closing theme "Uchuu wa Taihen da!" (which they translate as "Space is Super Weird!")
*although I hesitate to take credit for it; I'm sure it's been used somewhere, just I haven't seen it.
